Venice Biiennale – 9 th International Architecture Exhibition 2004 „METAMORPH”
September 12 – November 7, 2004

Francesca Ferguson, the initiator and curator of urban drift e.V. is the commissioner of the German Pavilion at the 9 th International
Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale 2004.

DEUTSCHLANDSCAPE – the German contribution to ‘Metamorph' may confound preconceived notions of the contemporary architecture scene in Germany. This fresh overview of over 38 built projects throughout Germany dating between 2000 and 2004 is a deliberate shift in focus away from metropolitan urban centres to the more peripheral areas
on the urban fringe.

Futures Revisited
A night of screenings, presentations and multimedia

Presented by urban drift e.V
A Transmediale partner event
www.transmediale.de

urban drift e.V is a transcultural platform for new tendencies in Architecture, Design and Urbanism. To coincide with the 2004 Transmediale theme of Fly Utopia, urban drift e.V will revisit the utopian architectural ideas of the past. Together with Oliver Elser (restmoderne), Futures Revisited will look back at futuristic and sometimes fantastic residential buildings such as The House Brain, self-growing underwater experiments from the Virgin islands, The Futuro house and space colonies.

A NEW PROJECT SPACE
From September 2003 urban drift will open up a new location in the third floor of the 1950's "Bikinihaus" at Bahnhof Zoo at the center of "City West". This is a deliberate shift of focus to a part of Berlin where a host of notorious listed buildings are under threat as a result of recent urban planning decisions. The space will form a basis for discourse on such issues, and for new city partnerships, through which we can introduce innovative architectural practices, and extend the debate on interdisciplinary collaborations in this field.

We welcome proposals for exhibitions & collaborations as we plan the space for 2004 - contact us at info@urbandrift.org
