Consume is the freenetworking strategy for the self provision of Community Area Network services utilising widely available wireless equipment and identifying opportunities for interconnetion wherever possible. It was initiated by Julain Priest and James Stevens in the summer of 2000. Participants nominate their network nodes and invite interconnection with an acknowledgement of free exchange and will to collaborate. Adoption has increased steadily and now presents the success of over 300 active participant node builders, an army of freenetwork activists and cultural visionaries operating a local scale share of information and assistance, entertainment and experience.

Dabei wird mit einer einfach zugänglichen drahtlosen Ausstattung gearbeitet und alle nur denkbaren Vernetzungsmöglichkeiten werden aufgetan. Consume wurde im Sommer 2000 von Julain Priest und James Stevens ins Leben gerufen. Die Teilnehmer bestimmen ihre Netzwerkknoten und sind für einen freien Austausch und Kollaborationen bereit. Mit der Zeit wurde das Prinzip zunehmend adoptiert und mittlerweile kann man mit Erfolg auf über 300 aktive Netzwerkbauer blicken; eine Armee von Aktivisten und kulturellen Visionären, die auf lokaler Ebene Informationen und Hilfe, Entertainment und Erfahrung teilen.

A discussion on both an urbanistic, and a socio-political phenomenon: on self-empowerment, self-organisation, and the grassroots manifestation of mobile connectivity.
