Director, Metamute, co-editor and founder of Mute magazine and Metamute.com. Simon completed his BA Fine Art (Hons) Painting degree at the Slade School of Art (University College London) in 1992, where he ran an open contributions magazine called Mute. In 1991, his interest in the creative applications of technology led him to attend CalArts in Los Angeles, where he decided to relaunch Mute as a critical quarterly.

Direktor von Metamute und Mitherausgeber und Gründer des Mute Magazins und von Metamute.com. 1992 machte Simon seinen Abschluss in Kunst (Malerei) an der Slade School of Art (University College London). Bereits damals rief er Mute als ein Magazin ins Leben, in dem jeder veröffentlichen durfte. 1991 brachte ihn sein Interesse für den kreativen Einsatz von Technologien zum CalArts in Los Angeles. Dort entschloss er sich Mute als eine kritische Vierteljahreszeitschrift neu zu starten.

The YouAreHere project aims to build a local community network for critical information workers. In practice this involves building an infrastructure which participants can use to communicate and exchange material. At the moment this infrastructure involves the construction, maintenance and expansion of a wireless network for the East End. In addition the network is made up of an open, collaborative web site, email lists, trade shows, screenings, talks and training in related areas in order to familiarise users with the aims and potential of YouAreHere.

A central activity of the YouAreHere project is a wireless network for East London based on Consume.net's 'free-ish' community network principles. The wireless network is being created voluntarily. In this case by running workshops where, over a two day period, participants build the equipment necessary to join the network. In collaboration with a diverse set of organisations (including ambienttv.net, raylab.com, free2air.org, metamute.com, mjt production, consume.net and twenteenthcentury.com), a number of workshops have already been run - supporting the network in the Hackney and Limehouse areas.

Ziel des YouAreHere Projekts ist es ein lokales Bürgernetzwerk für kritische Informationsarbeiter zu schaffen. Praktisch geht es darum eine Infrastruktur aufzubauen, die die Teilnehmer zum Austausch und zur Kommunikation von Material verwenden können. Derzeit geht es vor allem darum ein drahtloses Netzwerk im East End auf- und auszubauen und sich um die Wartung zu kümmern. Zu YouAreHere gehören eine offene, kollaborative Webseite, e-mail Listen, Handelsmessen, Filmvorführungen, Vorträge und ein Training in benachbarten Bereichen, um die Benutzer mit den Zielen und Potentialen des Projekts vertraut zu machen.

Eine zentrale Aktivität des YouAreHere Projekts ist dabei der Aufbau eines drahtloses Netzwerkes für Ost London, das nach Consume.nets Prinzipien für "freie" Community-Netzwerke funktioniert. Dieses drahtlose Netzwerk wird freiwillig aufgebaut. Während zweitägiger Workshops basteln die Teilnehmer selber das Equipment, um sich an das Netzwerk anzuschließen. In Zusammenarbeit mit den unterschiedlichsten Organisationen (dazu gehören ambienttv.net, raylab.com, free2air.org, metamute.com, mjt production, consume.net und twenteenthcentury.com) fanden bereits einige dieser Workshops statt, die das Netzwerk in den Gebieten von Hackney und Limehouse unterstützen.
