Initiator and director of international projects, symposia, exhibitions and academic programs in the fields of media arts and culture, architecture, and urbanism primarily at the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation. As director of the "ostranenie” Electronic Media Forum he was engaged in examining the role played by art and media upon the societal transformation process in Central and Eastern Europe. His work aims to integrate cultural media, urban and communications based strategies in the process and product of artistic and spatial discourse.

Initiator und Direktor von internationalen Projekten, Symposien, Ausstellungen und akademischen Programmen im Bereich Medienkunst und -kultur, Architektur und Urbanismus, vor allem an der Bauhaus Dessau Stiftung. Als Direktor von "Ostranenie” (Electronic Media Forum) hat er sich hauptsächlich mit der Rolle von Kunst und Medien auf die sozialen Transformationsprozesse in Zentral- und Osteuropa beschäftigt. Ziel seiner Arbeit ist es, kulturelle Medien und Urbanismus- und Kommunikationsstrategien in den Prozess von künstlerischer Produktion und den Raumdiskurs mit einzubeziehen.
Examining Void as time based and structured immateriality
Stephen Kovats, inspired by the urban voids in Berlin asks - What is a void, if not merely a space? Is it the structure and presence of immateriality which implies certain actions? Is it part of a psychographic realm of invisible virtual or metaphoric spaces which are equally as much a part of the urban fabric as the physical tangibility of the built environment?

Stephen Kovats ist von den urbanen Leerstellen in Berlin inspiriert und fragt danach was eine Leerstelle anderes als ein Raum sei. Ist es ihre Struktur und Präsenz von Immaterialität, die bestimmte Aktionen nahelegt?
